Compassion

Compassion is to have empathy, be kind, sympathy, understanding, merciful and many more in the thesaurus. However, in the dictionary it states that it is a feeling of distress and empathy for the suffering or misfortune of another often including the desire to alleviate it. In Latin: compati is to suffer with; com- means” with”, pati- means “to bear, suffer”.

I brought the Latin bit in because I thought it very appropriate according to God’s word in NKJV Isaiah 53 says that “He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement for our peace was upon him and by His stripes we are healed.” This Bible passage literally explains what true compassion is. How many of us will have compassion for someone and suffer gruesome pain for them or in this world lingo be inconvenienced for them let alone die for them. I don’t know about you I will be the first to say” I would think twice about it” but this is what Jesus did without any hesitation on His part. My understanding of compassion then is you are so overwhelmed with pain and grief for someone else problem that you are ready to do something to change their situation. What do you gather from this?

This is what happened with Our Saviour Jesus Christ. The Bible said that he did not commit any sin but He came to reverse (turn around, change, cancel.. ) the treason (disloyalty) that the first Adam committed in GENESIS by disobeying The Lord Our God. This disobedience has continued to affect us all up to now in doing our own things, ignoring God, telling ourselves that we control our own destiny, walking in pride and many more that some of you can even think about now. However, God still loves us so much that in JOHN 3V16 it is written “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life”. Perish – means lost, destroyed, left behind. What am I saying? Compassion is stirred from Love for another soul, ready to go through pain, sleepless nights, hunger, abuse and many more for that individual soul. This is what Jesus did for all of us and can be heard in the following messages. This is what one person had to go through therefore, elaborating the love of Jesus Christ which we must all strive to carry out in our life time.
